In a significant stride towards inclusivity, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is poised to sign an executive amendment bill, recently passed by the State House of Assembly, to establish an agency dedicated to addressing the needs of people with disabilities. The signing ceremony is scheduled for December 3rd, 2022, which coincides with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

Mr. Ayodele Adekanmbi, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities, shared this news during an address to a Coalition of Like-minded People with Disabilities. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the disabled community for the passage of the bill on October 20th, 2022, and highlighted the significance of Governor Makinde’s commitment to the welfare, education, and political representation of Persons with Disabilities.

The proposed agency will fall under the direct supervision of the governor, further demonstrating the state’s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for all residents. Adekanmbi emphasized that Governor Makinde’s administration stands out in its prioritization of the disabled community, with a focus on their welfare, education, and political participation.

During the meeting, members of the disabled community visited the governor’s office to express their appreciation and pledge their support. Adekanmbi noted that the disabled community is committed to casting their votes for Governor Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming general elections.

Representing Governor Makinde during the visit, Mr. Ademola Ojo, the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, affirmed that the bill, once signed into law, will significantly improve the treatment and well-being of disabled individuals in the state. Ojo assured the disabled community that their concerns will remain a top priority for the Makinde-led government.

Acknowledging the strides made by the present administration, Ade, the chairman of the Coalition of Like-minded People with Disabilities, commended the government for appointing several aides and supervisors from the disabled community. He pledged the unified support of his members by casting their votes for Governor Makinde and other PDP candidates in the upcoming general elections, affirming their endorsement of the governor’s bid for a second term.

As Governor Seyi Makinde takes this historic step towards establishing a dedicated agency for people with disabilities, the move reflects a commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible society for all residents of Oyo State.
