The Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities (OYSAPD) has commenced the distribution of mobility aid appliances to persons with disabilities across all 33 Local Government Areas of the state, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, improving accessibility and enhancing the quality of life of persons with disabilities.

The distribution exercise was officially flagged off on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, by the Director-General of the Agency, Barrister Ayodele Adekanmbi, at the Agency’s office within the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The initiative is designed to provide essential mobility support to persons with disabilities who require assistive devices to navigate their daily activities, participate more actively in their communities and enjoy greater independence.

The mobility aid appliances being distributed include wheelchairs, crutches and other assistive devices intended to address the mobility needs of eligible beneficiaries. By extending the distribution exercise across all 33 local government areas, the Agency aims to ensure that persons with disabilities in different parts of Oyo State benefit from the intervention.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Director-General reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to advancing the welfare, dignity and social inclusion of persons with disabilities in the state. The exercise represents a practical intervention aimed at addressing some of the mobility challenges faced by beneficiaries and supporting their participation in everyday life.

The programme also reflects the administration’s broader commitment to building a society in which persons with disabilities have improved access to opportunities, essential support and public services. Access to appropriate mobility aids can significantly improve an individual’s ability to attend school, access healthcare, pursue economic activities and participate in social and community engagements.

The initiative further underscores the commitment of His Excellency, Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, to an inclusive Oyo State where the needs and rights of persons with disabilities receive attention in government policies and interventions.

Through the Agency, the state government continues to demonstrate the importance of targeted support for persons with disabilities, recognising that meaningful inclusion requires practical measures that address barriers to mobility, independence and participation.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Governor Makinde for the gesture, commending the state government for providing mobility aids through OYSAPD. They described the intervention as a welcome development that would help ease some of the difficulties associated with movement and daily activities.

The commencement of the distribution exercise marks another step towards strengthening disability inclusion in Oyo State. The involvement of the Agency in coordinating the intervention also reinforces its role in supporting persons with disabilities and facilitating access to services and resources that promote their wellbeing.

As the distribution progresses across the state’s 33 local government areas, the initiative is expected to extend mobility support to eligible beneficiaries and further advance the government’s inclusive development agenda.

The Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities remains central to efforts to promote the rights, dignity and participation of persons with disabilities, in line with the vision of an accessible and inclusive society where no one is left behind.
